This is exactly the kind of song that Kayleen and Doug would have hated. Well, Kayleen would have hated it. Doug would have played it to himself and thought of Kayleen. It’s that kind of song, really. When I was in high school Maroon 5 was producing all of their first hits, and no song could get a group of teenage girls teary eyed and emotional like “She Will Be Loved”. It’s about a guy who loves a girl no matter how much she hurts herself. Or him. How perfect is that?
My prom date was a friend of mine from Latin class who called me up to ask about the color of my dress when he was buying the corsage with his mom. He picked me up on time, posed in approximately 500 photos (all shot by my father), spun me around the dance floor, and told me I looked beautiful. At the end of the night he gave me a big hug and left. It might not have been the most romantic prom night in the world, but it was sweet, and safe, and didn’t end with vomit, vicodin or a VD. Who could ask for anything more?
