As part of the city wide Philadelphia New Play Festival, Theatre Exile will present the Philly Originals, a multi-pronged exploration and presentation of works originated here in Philadelphia. The highlight of the festival will be Hearts & Soles, an evening of short works by Bruce Graham, Michael Hollinger, and Arden Kass. Graham's Full Figured, Loves to Dance is a three part expose on sex, dating, and finding the perfect mate in the contemporary Philadelphia urban landscape. Hollinger's works include Senior Moment, a side-splitting glimpse into a crumbling relationship between an aging, stubborn father and his son, and Truth Decay, which explores two young professionals who meet and do their best to conceal their quirks from one another. Arden Kass contributes two pieces to this night of laughter. The first, Kick Me, watches the business and personal relationship of two friends unravel over a man both desire for themselves. The second is Sole Searching where a woman takes stock of her material hangups. Is it relationship sabotage or a loving gesture? You decide.

As part of the Philadelphia New Play Festival, staged readings of Bruce Graham's Belmont Avenue Social Club, (starring the original Theatre Exile cast from 1998), will be held on February 5th, and Nick Wardigo's The Do's and Don'ts of Time Travel, on February 12th, on the third floor of Christ Church Neighborhood House, 20 N. American Street. THESE EVENTS ARE FREE!

On February 19th, a panel performance and discussion will focus on the influence of Philadelphia authors on the African American aesthetic in drama. The panel will consist of area theater educators and theater practitioners. This event will feature local Philadelphia actors performing excerpts of works by well-known African American playwrights such as Ed Bullens, Charles Fuller and Larry Neal. The panel will have an open dialogue with the audience and a question and answer session. THIS EVENT IS FREE!

Starring in Hearts & Soles are Philadelphia favorites Pete Pryor, Karen Getz, Harry Philibosian, Julie Czarnecki, Allen Radway and Amanda Schoonover.
