Theatre Exile in Philadelphia seeks a Managing Director to begin as soon as possible.  Theatre Exile currently in its 15th season is dedicated to producing challenging plays that explore the complexities of the human condition and contain a sense of true Philadelphia grit and passion.  Primary responsibilities include executing current 3-year strategic plan, managing annual operating budget, handling contract negotiations, leading operational planning efforts, reporting to Board of Directors, managing facilities and a small staff.  Salary commensurate with experience.  

Major areas of responsibility include:

  •  Coordination of long-range and annual planning in collaboration with the Producing Artistic Director and the Board of Directors.
  •  Providing leadership for and actively participating in fundraising activities, donor development, grant seeking and grant reporting.
  •  Developing the annual budget, including providing monthly financial reporting and forecasting, cash flow management, capital spending and expenditures review and approval.
  •  Supervising the administrative staff and directing administrative operations.
  •  Managing the operation and maintenance of the Studio X and rented venues.
  •  Administering and supporting, in conjunction with the Co-Artistic Director and the Education Director all Outreach programs of the theatre.
  • Acting as the representative and advocate of the theatre with government agencies, insurance companies, community and local business groups and arts organizations.
  • Acting as primary liaison with the Production Manager and oversight of production expenditures.   

 

Qualifications include:

  • BA, BS or similar Arts Administration related 4-year degree or higher.
  • Experience in a non-profit arts management/leadership position.
  • Possess strong budgeting and financial management skills including experience with Quickbooks, Peachtree or similar accounting software.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead, manage, motivate and inspire the theatre’s team.
  • Experience with various database software, Microsoft Office programs, computer networks, and general IT.
  • Proven methods of driving growth in ticket sales and associated revenues.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal leadership, and communications (both written and oral) skills.
  • Demonstrated a strong work ethic, stamina and passion.
  • Demonstrated experience in fund-raising, grant writing, advertising, public relations and marketing a plus, but not required.
